Nebraska politicians withdraw endorsement from candidate after support of online sport gambling

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Four local politicians have withdrawn their support for Tim Anderson, candidate for Nebraska State Senate in District 38.

Former governor Kay Orr, State Auditor Mike Foley, State Treasurer Joey Spellerberg and Sen. Pete Ricketts all withdrew due to Anderson’s support of Initiatives 440 and 441.

Initiatives 440 and 441 aim to allow online sports wagering.

“Initiatives 440 and 441 increase pressure and threats on our student athletes,” Orr said. “They will subject our young people to an onslaught of false advertisements and a legacy of debt.  440 and 441 do not provide meaningful tax relief for Nebraska taxpayers. We are disappointed that Tim Anderson chose to support online sports betting rather than protecting our young people and college sports. He sided with out-of-state money and gambling operators. Anderson took $750,000 from a PAC funded by gambling companies to run false ads.  We can no longer support him.”

Anderson said all four politicians are great.

“Those guys are great leaders, and I wish them nothing but the best,” Anderson said.
